Just for Men

She’s Pregnant, Now What?

You are not alone in this situation. The two of you can get through this. She needs you now more than ever. It’s vitally important that you provide her with the support she needs – emotionally and physically. Here are some tips on how you do this.

What To Do:

  • Listen to her and talk with her. Keep the lines of communication open.
  • Be there for her. You need each other.
  • Talk with the people who care. It’s important to discuss the situation with parents and others who will be directly affected. Keeping this a secret will only add to the stress – yours and hers.
  • Educate yourself. Collect information and seek advice from people you trust.
  • Be honest with her and yourself. Own and share how you feel. You’ll be surprised at how much it will help her to know that

What Not To Do:

  • DO NOT close yourself off emotionally because this situation involves more than just you!
  • Don’t run from your responsibilities. The more you try to avoid this situation, the harder things will get for everyone involved.
  • Don’t pressure her to do what you want.

First Steps

The first thing you need to do is find out that she is really pregnant and learn about your options. We provide free self-administered pregnancy tests, along with many support services. We are here to help both of you come to an informed decision. Show your support by taking her for the pregnancy test appointment.

The Pregnancy Care Center can help you in a variety of ways should she actually be pregnant. We offer a couple’s mentoring program and referrals to helpful organizations. You won’t be alone in supporting her through this pregnancy.

Remember the decision is ultimately hers to make. You should be able to express your opinion but you should never force her into a decision.
